چکیده

Abstract The Iberian Pyrite Belt (IPB) is a volcanic- and shale-hosted massive sulfides world-class province of the Upper Paleozoic age that includes some supergiant ore deposits with unique mining operations history. An extensive soil (multi-element) geochemical survey in IPB has been performed to create database increase knowledge studied area. Both univariate multivariate treatments have done manage large amount new data. area shows higher background concentrations several elements (e.b. Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Sn, In, Bi, As, or Sb) than other terrains Spain due volcano-sedimentary their associated wastes. Mapping chemical help understand behavior, controls associations natural environments. According this, mono-elemental contour maps show single-element distributions geological control (e.g., Na), deposit Cu) mixture both. On hand, analysis applied reduce maintaining same information. We chosen Factorial Analysis (FA) obtained six factors explain approximately 70% variability. Four these (F1, F2, F4 F5) an intense improves information IPB, while two (F3 control. These allow distinguishing between different types discover possible exploration targets for future studies.

Simple Efflorescent Sulphates from Iberian Pyrite Belt ( Portugal )

Poorlyand well-crystallized efflorescent sulphates sequences beginning with the simple hydrated salts from divalent to trivalent cations are described in acid mine drainage (AMD) elsewhere (Alpers et al., 1994; Nordstrom, 1999; Nordstrom and Alpers, 1999; Buckby et al., 2003; Romero et al., 2006; among others). Weathering of pyrite and pyrrothite produces acidity and Fe, followed by precipitati...

Monitoring the Extent of Contamination from Acid Mine Drainage in the Iberian Pyrite Belt (SW Spain) Using Hyperspectral Imagery

Monitoring mine waste from sulfide deposits by hyperspectral remote sensing can be used to predict surface water quality by quantitatively estimating acid drainage and metal contamination on a yearly basis. In addition, analysis of the mineralogy of surface crusts rich in soluble salts can provide a record of annual humidity and temperature. In fact, temporal monitoring of salt efflorescence fr...

Pollution of a River Basin Impacted by Acid Mine Drainage in the Iberian Pyrite Belt (sw Spain)

The Iberian Pyrite Belt (IPB) is one of the most famous sulfide mining regions in the world. Mining activity in the IPB dates back to prehistoric times, and though today there is no active mining, the pollution continues to generate. The result is acidic drainage containing elevated concentration of sulfate and heavy metals. This is responsible for the pollution and degradation of the Odiel Riv...

A new 3D geological model and structural evolution of the world-class Rio Tinto VMS deposit, Iberian Pyrite Belt (Spain)

A new 3D geological model and structural evolution of the Rio Tinto world-class VMS deposit is presented in this work. The Rio Tinto volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposit is located in the Spanish segment of the Iberian Pyrite Belt and is hosted by felsic porphyritic volcanic rocks and tuffs. Computer generated 3D modeling of the different orebodies and host rocks has been carried out usin...
